Ceolfrith encountered the heroes on the road outside second age Pavis. He told them he had been sent by the Council of Dragon Pass (the Eternal Dragon Ring) to do three things – guard a Queen who is not a Queen, slay a vampire who is not a vampire, and receive a sword from a Humakti who does not own the sword.

On learning his name, Grom willingly surrendered his sword, which he knew was called the Sword of Ceolfrith, and had been borne by a legendary warrior of the second age.

Ceolfrith is strong, tactiturn, and powerful. While a draconized Orlanthi, he does not proselytize, hoping to convert by example rather than by word.
